What is coenzyme Q10

CoQ10   also known as Q10, vitamin Q10, ubiquinone, or ubidecarenone.

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a substance similar to a vitamin. It is found in every cell of the body. Your body makes CoQ10, and your cells use it to produce energy your body needs for cell growth and maintenance. It also functions as an antioxidant, which protects the body from damage caused by harmful molecules. CoQ10 is naturally present in small amounts in a wide variety of foods, but levels are particularly high in organ meats such as heart, liver, and kidney, as well as beef, soy oil, sardines, mackerel, and peanuts.

Coenzymes help enzymes work to digest food and perform other body processes, and they help protect the heart and skeletal muscles.

CoQ10

Coenzyme Q10  is vital for sustaining life and is found in greatest abundance in the heart. The heart requires more CoQ10 to provide energy needed to pump blood throughout the body. It is also most sensitive to CoQ10 deficiency. Numerous clinical trials have shown that patients with congestive heart failure have low CoQ10 blood levels. Generally, the worse the heart condition, the lower the CoQ10 level. In addition, studies have shown that when administered orally, CoQ10 is an effective therapeutic agent in the prevention and treatment of heart disease. Clinical studies have also shown that CoQ10 can treat periodontal disease. CoQ10 is also being investigated in treating cancer, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s, Huntington’s and Alzheimer’s and even immune system disorders including AIDS.

Cancer & C0Q10

In 1961, scientists saw that people with cancer had little CoQ10 in their blood. They found low CoQ10 blood levels in people with myeloma, lymphoma, and cancers of the breast, lung, prostate, pancreas, colon, kidney, and head and neck. Some research has suggested that CoQ10 helps the immune system and may be useful as a secondary treatment for cancer.

  • CoQ10 may keep the antitumor drug doxorubicin from hurting the heart.

  •

  • Three studies examined the use of CoQ10 along with conventional treatment for cancer. The three studies contained a total of 41 women with breast cancer. In each study, the women improved.

As we age levels of CoQ10 continue to diminish.

Some reports say your CoQ10 level decline becomes apparent as early as your 20s!

In addition studies have reported that Statin drugs used to treet cholesterol also lower your immune system and CoQ10 levels.  (see: The Great Cholesterol Myth) .    If you or anyone you know is taking a statin drug, start taking a CoQ10 or ubiquinol supplement immediately to replenish your CoQ10 levels.

There is no official Daily Value recommendation

However it is thought that dosages of at least 90 to 120 mg of supplemental CoQ10 for any adult taking statin medications and for those with a family history of heart problems, or who is at increased risk for cardiovascular disease. This dosage is also appropriate for otherwise healthy men and women as a preventive measure and to help maintain a healthy cardiovascular system.

It is suggested to take soft-gel ubiquinol form when taking CoQ10 as a standalone supplement , as this has greater antioxidant efficiency than the ubiquinone form.

Ubiquinone CoQ10 is used in Cardioforlife because Ubiquinone is thought to be more useful in combating heart disease and Cardioforlife is not a standalone supplement but a blend containing many other antioxidants.

There are many different doctors all giving different but similar opinions about which is for of CoQ10 is best.
